Today was a dawn to dusk fast day the 10th of Teves. In mid winter this means 6.52am-4.58pm. Leaving the religious significance to one side, from a food point of view it meant eating my breakfast earlier than usual and missing lunch.

Breakfast – porridge with almond milk and an orange

Breaking the fast (5pm) – pasta with courgette ribbons and mixed pizza cheese. Mixed seeds.

Later on after kids bedtime – chicken breast

Total calories – 1118 kcal.

The danger of a fast day is that you think, “Well I’ve fasted and I’m tired and hungry and grumpy so I can eat what I like.”  I really haven’t gone overboard but I’ve nearly had a regular day’s amount of calories and it would have been so easy to do so.
