We were out for lunch today at friends, neither of whom are obviously overweight. I didn’t leave hungry but I ate significantly less than I usually do. I felt like the amount of food that was put out and the amount they were eating was just so much less than I would normally serve and eat. Because they were eating so little, I felt very self conscious to eat more.
Maybe I completely overeat. I’m just used to eating enormous quantities, even of healthy food and that’s clearly not ok. I’m used to it though, and eating less is uncomfortable and makes me feel grumpy. But then so does being enormous like I am now. I am abnormally large. So I suppose that’s because I eat abnormally large quantities.
I suppose it is a fairly obvious observation really.
If I eat less, will I just get used to it? Or will I always be hungry, but thinner?
Maybe what you need to do is to pay close attention while you are eating and see when you are no longer hungry. It is possible that you eat until you are “full” instead of eating until you’re not hungry anymore. Often, there is a difference. You may discover that you do just fine with smaller portions without having to be grumpy because you’re always a little hungry.
Hope this helps.
